On April 15, 2023, 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis and her friends were on their way to their friend's house in Hebron, New York, when they missed the road and entered the wrong driveway.
Realizing their mistake, they quickly reversed their vehicle to leave the premises. Sadly, this was when the owner of the driveway, Kevin D. Monahan, came out armed with his gun.
He opened fire, even though they were already trying to leave. One of the bullets hit Gillis and before the emergency response team could arrive, she had lost her life after a failed CPR performed by her friends.
Monahan's trial began on January 8, 2024.
On January 23, 2024, he was found guilty of second-degree murder. Subsequently, on March 1, 2024, he received a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
