In February 1986, four boys were riding their dirt bikes near an abandoned oil field in League City, Texas when they smelled something rotten. They decided to investigate and came across the dead body of a woman. She was lying on the ground just 50 yards from where another murdered woman had been discovered two years earlier. And when police arrived on the scene and started looking for clues related to the body that the boys had just found, they stumbled upon a third body.

The bodies of all three women were reportedly found naked under a tree, lying on their backs with their arms folded over them. This led police to believe that they were all victims of the same serial killer, and that the field was his personal graveyard. One investigator even went so far as to suggest that the murderer had created a "walking path" to "visually inspect his trophies one by one." Unfortunately, the trail went cold, and authorities were unable to connect anyone to the crimes — not even when a fourth body turned up in the same field five years later.
