The Dirty Cloud

USS Enterprise has entered a very dangerous region of space... An enormous cloud of wild energy is looming over Enterprise, almost ready to swallow her up in a gulp.
"Spock! What is that?!" Captain Kirk said, staring aghast at the view screen.
"I am attempting to analyse the strange abnormal energies, it is an energy never before encountered, Captain." Science officer Spock calmly said, his head bent over the analysis viewport device at the science station.
"Scotty!" Captain Kirk called down to the Engineering section on his chair intercom.
"I cannae tell what that is, Captain, but I can whip up something to boost our deflector shields!" Scotty said, "I'll need Spock to help. Spock?"
Spock straightens, nodded and moved to the lift to head down to the engineering section to help Scotty.
Minutes ticked by tensely as the crew looks curiously on the enormous energy cloud looming ever closer, threatening to swallow them whole.
In minutes the deflector shield desk chirps and then a remarkable event happen. The wild energy cloud suddenly closes over them and passes harmlessly through them, through Enterprise and the 420 crew.
Everybody breathes a sigh of relief, smiling widely at each other.
Spock returned to the bridge and stood at his usual spot next to Captain Kirk.
Kirk eyed him. He gestured at the screen, "What was that?"
Spock contemplated his answer, then said: "It is an old EMF cloud, quite dirty, manufactured crude electricity and electromagnetic field that grew over the thousands of years, from a long dead planet, much like Earth's 20th Century."
"Not Earth?"
"No, Captain."
"What did you and Scotty do to neutralise that dirty cloud?"
"Scotty rigged up a simple transmitter sending a bubble of special energy around Enterprise, protecting us and changing that dirty EMF cloud into harmless mist. Totally harmless I assure you."
"So what was it? The transmitter?"
"The transmitter Scotty created, It emits a powerful Scalar energy that formed a protective bubble around our ship. It is quite ingenious, really, a simple matter. It was based on a 21st Century scientist named John White, it was his device, called Aha Halo, that gave Scotty and I the idea to boost our deflector shield." Spock paused. "It worked perfectly, flawlessly."
"Extraordinary!" Captain Kirk declared, smiling.
Spock's eyebrow rose, said, "It was not difficult."
"Not difficult!" Kirk said, grinning. He pressed the intercom, "Good work, Scotty!"
"All in a day's work, Captain." Scotty said, pleased with the praise.
"Scotty! You are a miracle worker!" Kirk declared, pride in his voice.
"I aim to please, suh!" Scotty's voice held a hint of pride, then the intercom shuts off.
"Scalar energy.." Captain said, reflectively.
"Yes, Captain, our civilisation runs on Scalar energy, we forgets that because we're so use to it. Without it, humans would not have survived longer.". Spock said.
"Yes, we would have died, a couple centuries before Cochrane would have invented the warp drive." Kirk said. "Earth would have died of the enormous EMF pollution that was strangling every continent. It was fortunate that John White's invention was the single technology that saved Earth, long enough until your people detects Cochrane's warp drive to come visit us." Kirk grinned.
"Fortunate, indeed." Spock said.
"Let's continue our voyage.. that away." Kirk gestured at the view screen.
Sulu grinned and presses buttons and Enterprise slowly floats towards a glorious, spectacular view of the galaxy... the ship suddenly vanished into the distance, leaving behind a trail of sparkling colors like glowing dust that faded to black.
