Marcus Carpenter, a fourth-generation Black farmer in Minnesota, is on a mission to teach people in underserved communities that seeds aren’t only a beginning for plants — they can be a fresh start for people, too. Carpenter started Route 1, a nonprofit that shares agriculture guidance and resources with emerging farmers of color.
